Director, Office of International Education
Emelee Volden joined DU in 2020 and serves as the Director of the Office of International Education. In this position, Emelee provides leadership and advocacy for study abroad and global learning for the DU community. Emelee has worked in international education for many years in many capacities, including international enrollment management, international student & scholar services, teaching, international partnerships and campus internationalization. Emelee has managed and advised on study abroad programs worldwide and has led students on international volunteer programs. Emelee studied abroad in Florence, Italy as an undergraduate student and later spent two years in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan teaching with the JET Program. Emelee earned her B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Sioux Falls and her M.A. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. Her graduate work looked at the development of self-authorship in study abroad students. Emelee is passionate about international education because of the transformative power study abroad and cultural learning has on student identity development and intercultural competency. She is grateful for having colleagues and friends around the globe. Emelee is an avid traveler, outdoor enthusiast and loves eating delicious food – all activities she enjoys with her husband and young daughter.
