OIE Welcomes New Director
August 18, 2020
It is my great pleasure to share the news that Emelee Volden will be joining the DU community as Director, Office of International Education on September 07, 2020.
Emelee's international education credentials are exemplary. She came to the forefront of the strong candidate pool as someone can help strengthen and advance the intersection between study abroad and academic programs with intelligence, imagination, foresight and camaraderie. I have been deeply impressed with her experience, her approach to complex issues and her ability for asking timely and poignant questions.
Emelee comes to DU from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UW-Lax) where she served as the director of the UW-Lax's International Education & Engagement Office. In this leadership role, Emelee was responsible for the education abroad program, international student and scholar services, ESL, and other campus internationalization efforts. Prior to UW-Lax, she led international student recruitment, admissions & services, community and multicultural programming and taught at Northwest College in Powell, WY. Emelee also has extensive experience in study abroad advising and program development from her time with the Learning Abroad Center at the University of Minnesota.
Emelee received her BA from the University of Sioux Falls and her MA in Higher Education Administration from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
Casey Dinger, chair of the search committee says, "Emelee is a dedicated and thoughtful leader in this field, bringing a proven track record in developing quality, inclusive and sustainable initiatives in international education."
Finally, I want to express my gratitude for the terrific and deeply thoughtful work done by the search committee.
Please help me congratulate Emelee and welcome her to the DU family. I know you will enjoy working with her when she arrives at the start of the 2020 Fall quarter.
