COURSE DESCRIPTION

With emphasis on experiential learning this travel class will raise appreciation for the profound impact photography has had on the history of civilization. From bases in Paris and London, the class visits locations significant to the invention of photography and embarks on a journey through the history of photography and contemporary interpretations with visits to world-class museums and galleries. Participants document their engagement through photography and writing assignments.

Through group and individual instruction, the class presents an ideal scenario for advancing technical expertise and confidence as photographers, while at the same time, engaging with French and British cultures. Completing photography assignments and critique participation will encourage class members to continue developing an artistic and aesthetic way of seeing. Expectations from class participants are that they will: advance their technical photography skills; gain appreciation for the history of photography; engage in critical analysis of photography; increase self-awareness; celebrate intellectual curiosity; gain further appreciation for the inter-connectedness of life, and most importantly, have fun.
